Welcome to Black Panther: Artistic Impressions! This web site is dedicated to Marvel Comics' Black Panther character, also known as T'Challa, king of the African nation of Wakanda. This site celebrates the long and fascinating history of the Black Panther, a character who generally operated on the periphery of the Marvel Universe until recently. The Black Panther has long maintained an active role in the world of Marvel superherodom. Shortly after his debut in Fantastic Four #52, he joined the world's mightiest superteam in Avengers #52. In 1973, the Black Panther was finally given the starring role in his own series when he became the marquee character of Jungle Action in issue #5. In the pages of Jungle Action, writer Don McGregor gave the Black Panther more depth by putting him back in his homeland, Wakanda, in the landmark storyline, "Panther's Rage." Jungle Action was cancelled after issue #24, but the Black Panther did not vanish for long. Jack "King" Kirby wrote and edited the first 12 issues of Black Panther, Vol. 1. In the 80's, the Black Panther made several guest appearances in various Marvel comics and had a four-issue mini series in 1988. Don McGregor returned to pen Black Panther: Panther's Prey in 1991. The Panther was given a second ongoing series, Black Panther, Vol. 2, written by the inimitable Christopher Priest, in 1998 under the Marvel Knights imprint. That title lasted 62 issues before it was cancelled, leaving the Panther in limbo for the time being. Rumors persist that a new series is in the offing, but Marvel has yet to make a formal announcement about any new Black Panther comic book. artistic impressionsSo why create this page? Well, through the Black Panther's long history, many creators have dabbled into the world of the Wakandan king. The purpose of this web page is to provide an exhibit of their work. Both the artists who have illustrated the Panther and the many writers who have left their indelible mark on T'Challa's life and the lives of those around him.Because of the Panther's long and sporadic history, this web site should also provide an exhibit of the changing styles of both comics and society in general. Characters and settings change with the times as do the comics in which they appear. So, without further adieu, I hope you enjoy your visit to Black Panther: Artistic Impressions.
